Flair For Fun

The Flair For Fun group meets monthly alternating homes. The hostess is the facilitator for the evening and provides and agenda with a topic for discussion. We have recently added a book as part of our repertoire of topics. This, along with TTN organization updates, is part of the agenda. In addition to our monthly meetings, we meet for birthday celebrations. We have recently added outings and hope to increase these with the summer approaching. Through the year we have been in existence, we have become "Sisters in Transition".

The Originals

We have been the first peer group within TTN LI and we have 8 members. During  our first 2 years, we focused on retirement issues such as changing self-image, the anxiety of unstructured time and how to continue to feel productive. More recently, we have read books, selected particular topics to discuss and used some meeting discussions as open-ended and freewheeling. We plan a fun event every month or two; walked the Brooklyn Bridge in the Fall and had a festive holiday dinner in an elegant restaurant. We are a close knit group, love the group and each other and we enjoy almost perfect attendance.

Serendipity

Serendipity is a general interest/social peer group which meets at the Mid Island Y in Plainview once a month on Thursday afternoons. We try to plan our discussions/activities several months in advance, but often get side-tracked by "hot topics" of the moment. Some of our planned activities included: learning canasta, beading and crocheting. We discuss books, family issues, and the myriad of retirement topics. We also plan social activities, like theatre, museums, spa outings, mah jong games, tours, luncheons,

Friday Night Dinner

Our group mission is bout having fun. The group is comprised of single working women who meet once a month on a Friday or Saturday evening for dinner to laugh and enjoy ourselves. We are rotating among houses as the hostess makes the main dish and the others bring the rest oof the food. We would like to stay small but we may be open to additional members in the future.

Butterflies

We have been together for two years and a general transition group and most of us live in Southern Nassau County. We count about 10 members and half of those joined the group during the last year. We meet onf Fridays (noon) in members homes, if feasible, and on exception we try to find alternate locations where we can have our pre planned discussions. Periodically we plan outdoor events and even combine those with other peer groups. Our discussions typically focus on various transition issues that the respective facilitators choose.

The Wednesday Matinee Club

The group is an E mail based special interest peer group whose prime objective is to attend Broadway (and other) shows on a monthly basis. As you might guess from our name, we prefer going to matinees. We usually arrange to meet at the Penn Station waiting room and go for a pre-theater lunch at a pre-arranged restaurant. Our group is open to new members. If interested, contact Barbara Kroner at barbkoysterbay@msn.com or call 516 922 9036.
