Tom Brokaw Reports: Boomers

News & Views > News Stories

Tom Brokaw doesn't have nearly as much admiration for America's "baby boom" generation as he had for its parents. But that's not the reason his CNBC special, "Tom Brokaw Reports: Boomer$," about the 74 million Americans born between 1946 and 1964, too often feels redundant, superficial and unfocused.

Long Island: Liberated Ladies: From The Golden Girls to Sex and the City - Presented by Dr. Anna Katsavos
Since their 1998 HBO debut, the women of Sex and the City's fabulous foursome have emerged as the quintessentially "liberated ladies" of today.  They are free to vote, to work, to "play", (read "to be sexually active") or simply to just be, together or alone.  Interestingly enough, one could make similar observations about the characters of the 1985 TV series The Golden Girls, who, much like their younger counterparts, were also independent, liberal-minded, and sexually alive women.

This month: Books About Women Of The World. “We hope to recruit you to join an incipient movement to emancipate women and fight global poverty by unlocking women’s power as economic catalysts. That is the process underway—not a drama of victimization but of empowerment, the kind that transforms bubbly teenage girls from brothel slaves into successful businesswomen. “ Thus begins Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide.

TTN Blog > Karen Hodges

OK I’ll admit it — I became a Winter Oympics junkie, sitting in my living room totally into watching the amazing feats of these athletes. One athlete in particular captured my imagination, Lindsey Vonn the women’s downhill skier. As I listened to her story and watched her compete, I couldn’t help but get a few life lessons from Lindsey and her gold medal victory.
